The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially approved an updated strategy for the development of the state-owned banking sector, which determines the future fate of the country’s largest financial institution. According to the government’s decision, after the end of martial law, PrivatBank, which is currently 100% state-owned, will be fully privatized and transferred to private investors. This is stated on the official website of the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n
Unlike other large state-owned financial institutions, such as Ukrgasbank and Sense Bank, the sale of which is planned to be launched much earlier and not postponed until the end of the war, the privatization of PrivatBank will take place exclusively in peacetime. However, rigorous preparation for this procedure is already beginning to maximize the investment attractiveness of the institution.<\/p>\n
In particular, by the end of 2026, PrivatBank is obliged to update and approve its own individual development strategy. A clear deadline of the end of 2027 has also been set for cleaning up the balance sheets from toxic assets – the bank must settle the three largest non-performing loans and sell the three main non-core assets.<\/p>\n
In parallel, control over management is being strengthened: an annual assessment of the supervisory board is being introduced, and its members will be dismissed in the event of the slightest reputational risks or integrity problems.<\/p>\n
Until its privatization, PrivatBank will focus on the country’s strategic defense and social goals. The main financing priorities are identified as enterprises of the defense-industrial complex, critical energy infrastructure, the agricultural sector, as well as supporting businesses and the population in front-line regions and providing Ukrainians with housing through state mortgage lending programs.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
