Previously, the bank had already warned clients about transferring “dormant” accounts to the status of fixed deposits with appropriate tariffs. The new rules apply to accounts that have not been used for at least 12 consecutive months. Those who keep funds in such an account and do not monitor changes in tariffs should be prepared for automatic write-offs.

State Sberbank is changing tariffs for individuals from August 1, 2026. The fee will increase for servicing inactive card accounts – from UAH 100 to UAH 150 per month, as reported by Fraza. The fee will be charged automatically from accounts that have not been used for 12 consecutive months – provided that there are funds left on them. The new tariff will apply to card accounts that have not had any active transactions during the year. In annual terms, the maximum amount of such write-offs will increase from UAH 1,200 to UAH 1,800 if the account remains inactive for the entire period. The write-off is carried out automatically without separate notification to the client, but only if there is a sufficient balance on the account. If the balance is zero, the commission is not written off, and the debt is not formed.

There is a simple way to avoid collection. Even replenishing the account for a symbolic amount interrupts the countdown of the period of inactivity and does not allow the bank to apply the corresponding commission. Thus, in order not to pay UAH 150 each month, it is enough to make any transaction – transfer, replenishment or payment – at least once a year.

Who will be affected by the new tariffs

Some Ukrainians use accounts in the state bank for long-term storage of savings, without making any transactions for years. In such cases, regular write-offs can be unexpected, especially if the account holder does not monitor changes in tariffs. This also applies to those who do not familiarize themselves with the updates of contracts and tariff packages.

According to the NBU, as of May 1, 2026, the financial institution served 12.5 million individual depositors, whose accounts had UAH 247.5 billion. The increase in the commission occurs against the background of a broader revision of the tariff grid. From July 1, 2026, the bank canceled the commission for replenishing cards via a mobile application, while increasing a number of other tariffs – commissions for withdrawing cash from other people’s ATMs and transfers between cards of different banks will increase.

What owners of “dormant” accounts should know

Until September 30, 2025, owners of current and deposit accounts on which no operations were carried out for three years or more had to contact bank branches. Clients had to receive funds and update their personal and identification data. Accounts whose owners did not appear at the branch are recorded by the bank as fixed deposits with the application of commissions in accordance with the current tariffs.

Clients with such accounts need to visit the branch to update their identification data and undergo verification. The branch can resolve the issue of withdrawals from current accounts and deposits. It is necessary to bring a passport and a document on the assignment of a taxpayer identification number to the branch.

Sberbank is increasing the monthly fee for servicing inactive card accounts from August 1, 2026 – instead of UAH 100, clients will pay UAH 150.
