The new 2,000-hryvnia banknote with a portrait of Vasyl Stus, which is due to enter circulation on September 4, may not be accepted by some ATMs and payment terminals at first. This is reported by the Telegraph newspaper with reference to participants in the payment market.<\/p>\n
According to the newspaper’s sources, the reason is that the equipment needs to be updated with software and configured for the new denomination. At the same time, banks and payment infrastructure operators are still waiting for a full technical description of the new banknote from the National Bank, without which it is impossible to begin modernization.<\/p>\n
According to market representatives, the process of adapting ATMs and terminals will take time. Additional difficulties are created by the shortage of technical specialists during martial law, as well as the complexity of carrying out work in some regions of the country.<\/p>\n
It is also reported that the new banknote will be approximately 6 millimeters longer than the 1,000-hryvnia banknote. Because of this, not all bill acceptors will be able to work with it without re-equipment. After receiving the samples, equipment manufacturers must develop new firmware, which will then be installed on terminals and ATMs. According to market participants, this process alone can last at least three months.<\/p>\n
In this regard, Ukrainians are recommended to use the new bill mainly for payments at bank and store cash desks in the first months after its appearance, and not for replenishing card accounts or conducting transactions through self-service terminals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
