A new petition has been registered in Ukraine to the Cabinet of Ministers demanding that tax debts incurred by businesses and citizens during martial law be written off. The petitioners emphasize that a significant portion of entrepreneurs have lost the ability to work due to hostilities, infrastructure destruction, and forced displacement, and therefore cannot repay the debts that have accumulated over the past years.<\/p>\n
The petition calls for the adoption of a special mechanism that would allow debts incurred as a result of force majeure to be written off or restructured. The initiators propose dividing debts into categories: debts of enterprises that have lost assets; debts of individual entrepreneurs that have ceased operations due to occupation or evacuation; and debts of citizens who could not fulfill their tax obligations due to war risks.<\/p>\n
The petitioners emphasize that the current system of fines and penalties only worsens the situation of businesses that are trying to resume operations. According to them, debt relief will reduce financial pressure, stimulate economic activity and support entrepreneurs who continue to work despite difficult conditions.<\/p>\n
The government has not yet officially commented on the petition, but relevant departments have previously stated that the issue of tax debts in a war zone requires a separate approach.
