The National Commission for Energy and Utilities Regulatory (NKREK) may increase price restrictions on the electricity market in the coming days – the so-called daytime price caps. This was announced by Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada. According to him, the main goal of changing the price caps is to increase the volume of electricity imports from the European Union countries, which are currently only partially used. At the same time, tariffs for household consumers will remain unchanged.
“Currently, we have a skew: at night, electricity imports are purchased practically at the limit of physical capabilities, and during the day – less than 30% of available capacities,” Shmyhal noted.
The Minister expects that the NKRREK will make a decision on increasing daytime price caps in the near future – within one or two days. The last time price restrictions were reviewed was in July 2025, when the increase affected the evening hours – from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The price cap increase is not aimed at changing tariffs for the population, but at stimulating imports and balancing the market during daytime hours, as less than a third of available capacity is currently being used.
