In Ukraine, the issue of a possible increase in the electricity tariff for the population has become more active again. The government and relevant agencies are working on several scenarios for changing the price, but a final decision has not yet been made. According to sources in the sector, the key factor will be the updated forecast of the energy system balance for the spring-summer period.
The need to adjust the tariff is associated with the increase in costs for restoring the energy infrastructure after the Russian attacks, as well as with a shortage of generating capacity. Energy companies emphasize that the current tariff does not cover the real cost of electricity production, especially in conditions of high repair costs, imports and a shortage of equipment.
According to preliminary estimates, a decision may be made in the spring or early summer. At the same time, the government refrains from specific dates, as it is simultaneously analyzing the impact of a possible increase on households and preparing mechanisms for targeted support for vulnerable categories of the population.
The tariff formation will be influenced by several key factors: the volume of available generation, the pace of restoration of damaged facilities, the need for electricity imports, the financial condition of producers and recommendations of international partners on the market model. The forecast of consumption during peak periods, in particular in summer, when the load on the system traditionally increases, will also be important.
As a reminder, government officials emphasize that any changes to the tariff will be accompanied by social compensators to avoid excessive burden on households. The final decision is expected after the analysis of the state of the power system and the financial capabilities of the market is completed.
