The National Bank has retrospectively revised certain balance of payments indicators for Ukraine covering the period from 2020 to 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. This action follows the receipt of updated administrative data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine regarding goods transported via international postal and express shipments. The NBU press service announced this update.
While utilizing this information to compile external sector statistics, the National Bank identified inconsistencies in the data and initiated a supplementary verification process. The subsequent review by the State Customs Service revealed specific inaccuracies linked to changes in declaration procedures for international postal and express shipments, the transition to electronic declaration, and the use of various State Customs Service information systems to generate the relevant data.
Based on the results of this work, the State Customs Service compiled and provided the National Bank with updated information regarding the customs clearance of goods in international postal and express shipments; this information was used to update the corresponding balance of payments indicators.
Using the updated data, the National Bank recalculated the relevant balance of payments indicators for 2020–2025 and the first quarter of 2026. The revision had the most significant impact on the figures for 2025.
Additionally, other adjustments were made to the balance of payments for 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 based on newly received reporting data, specifically regarding the volumes of international technical assistance, foreign trade in services, and private remittances. Following the review, the current account deficit was reduced by $0.6 billion for 2020, $0.8 billion for 2021, $0.1 billion for 2022, $0.3 billion for 2023, $1.0 billion for 2024, $4.6 billion for 2025, and $1.2 billion for the first quarter of 2026.
Updated time series for 2023–2025 have been published on the National Bank’s official website.
