AMCU investigates price collusion in the egg market: Avangard Group and Ovostar Union under suspicion

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine at the end of May began consideration of the case against the groups of companies “Avangard” and Ovostar Union on suspicion of anti-competitive concerted actions in the formation of prices for chicken eggs. This was reported by the press service of the AMCU.

The committee notes that both groups are the largest producers of shell eggs and have a significant influence on the market. The investigation was initiated after a significant increase in egg prices in October 2024 without objective economic reasons.

In April 2025, the AMCU already provided ten leading egg producers and sellers with mandatory recommendations for consideration on compliance with antimonopoly legislation. However, the results of a further investigation of the economic activities of key market players revealed signs of collusion and violation of the principles of economic competition.

The consideration of the case is ongoing. If the facts of the violation are confirmed, the companies may face significant fines.
