The National Bank of Ukraine is gradually withdrawing some old banknotes issued in 2003–2007 from circulation. This decision was made to improve the quality of cash used in the country.
Which hryvnia banknotes will soon disappear from circulation
Instead of the old 50 and 200 hryvnia banknotes, modern banknotes with the same denominations that were issued from 2014 and later will be introduced. The replacement will take place gradually, mainly during ordinary purchases and payments, so citizens do not need to specifically exchange old money.
Once the old banknotes reach banks, they will no longer be returned to circulation. They will be withdrawn, transferred to the National Bank for counting and recycling.
The National Bank is currently working on modernizing cash to make it more reliable. As part of this process, old banknotes are being replaced with new ones that have better protection against counterfeiting. As a result, only new generation money will remain in circulation, which will significantly improve the quality and security of the national currency.
