Low-cost carrier Wizz Air is preparing to resume flights from Ukraine: what is known

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air has announced plans to resume flights from Ukraine. They plan to carry 5 million passengers per year. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the statement of the company’s CEO Josef Varadi during the conference “Logistics as a driver of economic growth”.

The European low-cost carrier Wizz Air has developed a plan to resume flights to Ukraine after the opening of Ukrainian skies. According to Varadi, Wizz Air plans to launch about 100 new routes during the first six months, which will allow it to carry 5 million passengers per year.

He noted that the company is not only planning aircraft to Ukraine, but also wants to organize basic operations in the country. We are ready to start work when our country is ready.

Varadi also reported that Wizz Air representatives have already visited Ukraine several times and held negotiations with Ukrainian airports, achieving almost complete agreement on commercial agreements with them. In particular, it was previously reported that negotiations were underway between the management of Boryspil International Airport and representatives of Wizz Air regarding the rapid launch of air traffic after the opening of Ukrainian airspace.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine wrote that Ryanair plans to resume flights to Ukraine within four to six weeks after the official cessation of hostilities. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary noted that an official ceasefire is necessary to meet the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

We also wrote that after the closure of Ukrainian airspace for civil aviation due to a full-scale invasion, Ukrainian airlines adapted by moving their operations abroad. In particular, the three main carriers – SkyUp, Wind Rose and Skyline Express – continue to operate flights in various countries.
