The law on NABU and SAPO has already been signed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, signed the scandalous bill No. 12414, which, according to experts, actually destroys the independence of the anti-corruption infrastructure in Ukraine. The document has already been submitted for signature to the sixth President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

This is evidenced by official information in the bill card on the parliament’s website. The signing took place in record time – MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported on the unprecedented speed of the procedure.

📢 “There has not been such speed in all six years,” the parliamentarian noted in his Telegram channel.

⚖️ What does law No. 12414 provide for
The document, adopted by 263 votes in the second reading on July 22, makes changes to the procedure for the functioning of the NABU and the SAPO, which limit their autonomy from other law enforcement agencies, in particular the SBU and the Prosecutor’s Office.

In practical terms, this means that anti-corruption investigations may be under political influence, and the independent work of investigators and prosecutors may be blocked or compromised.

🚨 NABU and SAPO: “This is the destruction of the system created after Euromaidan”
NABU Director Semen Kryvonos and SAPO Head Oleksandr Klymenko have already publicly appealed to the president to veto the document. They are convinced that the bill poses a direct threat to the existence of independent anti-corruption institutions created in response to the demands of society after the Revolution of Dignity.

📢 “This is the end of the independent work of NABU and SAPO,” Klymenko said at a briefing in Kyiv.

Risk to European integration
An anti-corruption system is one of the key requirements of the European Union for Ukraine’s advancement on the path to membership. The adoption of Law No. 12414 may undermine the trust of international partners and jeopardize support from the EU, the US, and international financial institutions.
