Overpaid six times for Polish metro cars

The head of the State Audit Service, Alla Basalayeva, claims that the Kyiv authorities overpaid UAH 160 million for the delivery of donated metro cars from Poland – six times more than the real price. Basalayeva reported this in an interview with Glavkom.

Basalayeva emphasized that two-thirds of the cars turned out to be unusable, as the media recently reported. She noted that the city authorities ignored the recommendations of the State Audit Service on more efficient use of funds.

“If they were donated, then they could have been delivered in an acceptable way somehow? But no: they were overpaid six times,” she noted.

The head of the service also mentioned other problems in Kyiv that lead to abuse, including:

Illegal parking: an audit of the Kyivtransparkservice KP found that the company caused losses of UAH 50 million due to illegal collection of funds in parking lots.
Postal Square: The underground part of the unfinished square is collapsing and may flood the tunnel.

According to Basalaeva, due to repeated ignoring of recommendations by the Kyiv authorities, law enforcement agencies have now become interested in her activities.
