Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said that Brussels categorically rejects the possibility of transferring frozen Russian assets worth about 200 billion euros to Ukraine and is not going to change its position.
The statement comes against the backdrop of an initiative by Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands and Spain, which called on the European Commission to find new ways to use these funds to help Ukraine. The government official stressed that this issue is not up for discussion and the Belgian Prime Minister will insist on his position.
Francken also criticized the Baltic countries for actively pushing for a reparations loan for Ukraine, warning them against trying to corner Brussels and recalling Belgium’s support for Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
