Eating out will become a luxury: Ukrainians warned about rising food prices

Prices for basic food products in Ukraine continue to rise, causing concern among consumers. The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Vitaliy Koval, commented on the situation, pointing to the key factors that affect the cost of goods.

According to the minister, the main problem is not so much the absolute level of prices, but the low purchasing power of the population. He noted that the price of bread in Ukraine is currently one of the lowest in Europe – from 25% to half as low compared to neighboring countries. At the same time, due to lower incomes, even such prices are perceived as high.

The minister also emphasized the need to transition from an agrarian to an agrarian-industrial model of the economy, which would allow for more profits from the processing of agricultural products, and not only from the export of raw materials.

Regarding egg prices, Koval cited statistics: in February 2025, more than 700 million eggs were produced in Ukraine, and in March – more than 900 million. During this period, the price of eggs decreased by 5%. The minister added that in May, a further decrease in prices is usually observed due to the seasonal decline in demand after Easter.

He paid special attention to the problem of vegetable storage. Due to the lack of specialized vegetable storage facilities, about 35% of the harvest is lost before it even reaches the shelves.

“We need to build vegetable storage facilities,” the minister said, emphasizing that the development of storage infrastructure is the key to reducing losses and stabilizing prices.
