Mylovanov promised to equate “poor” students with the children of prosecutors and deputies for UAH 300,000 – media scandal surrounding KSE

Former Minister of Economy, Trade and Agriculture in Oleksiy Honcharuk’s government, and now President of KSE (Kyiv School of Economics) Tymofiy Mylovanov published an advertising post on his Facebook page in which he called: “KSE is an opportunity for those who do not have access to resources that have long been distributed among the elites. If you are poor and want to break free. If you were discriminated against. If you did not have a single chance to get where “their own” easily go — KSE will fix all this.” And at the end of the post he noted: “This is not for the children of prosecutors or deputies — they already have everything. And if you want to, but had neither connections nor a start — come! We exist for this.”

Corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, employee of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the NAS of Ukraine, Larisa Yakubova, reacted to this in the comments after the post, pointing out, at a minimum, the manipulative nature of Mylovanov’s post, since the cost of studying at KSE costs 300 thousand UAH: “A mocking post. A mocking tone. A shameful scoundrel.”

After that, a discussion broke out, which was joined by the rector of KSE, Tymofiy Brik, and the KSE support group. Later, Brik made a separate post, taking Yakubova’s words out of context, who, responding to the accusations of one of the representatives of the KSE support group, noted: “Absolute misunderstanding of procedures and subordination” (which exist in science. – ed.).

Accordingly, Timofey Brik gave a manipulative interpretation: “…I don’t understand when people from science and education work not on science or education, but on procedures and subordinations.” Then the KSE support group launched a campaign of harassment against Yakubova, which Mylovanov himself joined in, calling her a “dinosaur.” He also made a post in which he criticized Ukrainian science and scientists in general: “They are walking zombies. They are holding Ukraine back from developing and crippling our children.”

Separately, Mylovanov emphasized that scientists “live on our taxes.” At the same time, we note that he receives a salary as a member of the supervisory board (according to the quota of the Ministry of Economy) of the state-owned JSC “Ukrainian Defense Industry.” We also note that according to the financial report of KSE (Private Institution “University “Kyiv School of Economics”) for 2023 (there is no report for 2024 yet), it received UAH 478 thousand as “grants (subsidies), funding received from state or local budgets, state trust funds or as part of technical assistance.” It is worth recalling separately that during his tenure as minister (from August 29, 2019 to March 5, 2020) Mylovanov attracted attention with unrealistic promises that he would increase Ukraine’s GDP by 40% in 5 years, as well as the fact that he was credited with significant bonuses: in particular, in September 2019, in the amount of 345% of the official salary, in October – 587.5%, in November – 381.7%, in December – 373.75%.

We would like to add that Mylovanov, after the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption announced an inspection of certain aspects of the institution’s work, is confident that a political and media campaign is being waged against him and KSE.
