Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka said that members of the National Commission, which regulates the energy and utilities sectors, should leave their posts amid the corruption scandal in the Midas case. He announced this during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada.
Kachka emphasized that the published facts cast doubt on the independence and authority of the regulator.
“In light of the facts that have been revealed, all members of the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Utilities should also leave their posts as an independent body. If this does not happen, we will appeal to the Verkhovna Rada for authorization to terminate their mandates,” he said.
According to him, the independence of the regulator should be based on the trust of market participants, consumers and parliament, and the current situation is eroding this trust.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that the elimination of corrupt practices in the state corporate sector is a priority for the government. He reported that the government has already held meetings with all supervisory boards of state-owned enterprises and agreed on mechanisms to strengthen internal control.
“We are working every day to strengthen the role of supervisory boards and internal procedures that will make corrupt actions impossible — in procurement, contracts, or financial policy,” Kachka added.
Let us remind you who Timur Mindich is and why he is involved in NABU cases. Also, Mindich, a figure in the Energoatom case, may be involved in the purchase of low-quality bulletproof vests for the military. We have also already reported on whether NABU and SAPO had contact with Zelensky and how Mindich left.
Timur Mindich, a figure in the corruption investigation, probably also had influence on Rustem Umerov, the former Minister of Defense.
