Kyiv’s budget faced problems with filling at the beginning of the year. Due to the decline in production and the closure of some small and medium-sized businesses, the capital received less money in January and February. This was stated by Kyiv City Council deputy from the Batkivshchyna party, Alla Shlapak, on the air of the Kyiv Time program.
The capital may reduce expenses
According to Shlapak, due to the lack of funds, the city authorities will have to review the financing of some programs. At the same time, spending on the city’s energy sustainability and support for the Defense Forces of Ukraine will remain priorities. However, the deputy criticized some decisions on the use of funds. In particular, the capital continues to finance the construction of a new school in Obolon, despite the demographic decline and understaffing of existing educational institutions. Shlapak separately gave the example of the restoration of a house on Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard in the Pechersk district after a Russian strike.
“Five million hryvnias have been allocated for repair work after the arrival. Although everyone sees this hole and understands that this is definitely not enough. And at the same time, more than 10 million have been allocated for asphalting around this building,” the deputy said.
Earlier, Kyiv City Council deputy from the Servant of the People party Andriy Vitrenko said that restoring Kyiv’s energy sustainability requires more than 60 billion hryvnias, but currently the city budget has only about a sixth of the required amount. According to him, the capital’s authorities need to reconsider the distribution of funds in the budget.
In addition, in December, Kyiv City Council deputies made 3,400 amendments to the draft budget for almost 28 billion hryvnias, which is about 30% of the total budget. This indicates that a significant part of the funding was formed without taking into account the current needs of Kyiv residents.
