Increasing gas transportation tariffs will affect industry and inflation

The increase in gas tariffs will have a significant impact on the industrial sector of Ukraine and may lead to an increase in inflation. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the comments of the Executive Director of the Association of Gas-Extracting Companies of Ukraine Artem Petrenko.

According to Petrenko, the increase in tariffs will primarily affect the cost of gas for the industrial sector.

“The increase in tariffs will primarily affect the cost of gas in the commercial segment, that is, for industry,” the expert noted.

Petrenko also emphasized that there is currently a moratorium on tariff increases. However, despite this, the increase in this tariff will still have consequences for the economy.

“At the same time, taking into account the current moratorium on tariff increases, its products, which it produces, which are also purchased by household consumers, the population of Ukraine. Accordingly, this will increase inflation,” Petrenko added.

The expert stressed that increasing gas transportation tariffs for industry could lead to an increase in prices for goods and services, which would ultimately affect the overall inflation rate in the country.

Earlier, the founder of the National Association of Extractive Industries of Ukraine, Ksenia Orynchak, stated that increasing gas transportation tariffs could harm the public sector. She emphasizes that the National Commission for Energy and Utilities Regulation (NEURC) should explain such a decision.
