In the Dnipropetrovsk region of Kryvyi Rih, farmers are reporting the worst sunflower harvest in 30 years this year. This is reported by Dnipro Region.
Farmers in the Kryvyi Rih district are faced with an unprecedented problem: due to a prolonged drought, this year’s sunflower harvest turned out to be the worst in the last 30 years.
The harvest of grains – wheat, barley, rapeseed and peas – in the district has already been completed, and the harvest of sunflower, which was sown on a third of the fields, is still ongoing. However, the quality and quantity of the harvested crop are of serious concern.
Instead of the expected 3 tons per hectare, farmers are harvesting only a few hundred kilograms. Because of this, a significant part of the sunflower will probably not go to the production of oil, but will be used as solid fuel.
This situation emphasizes the critical dependence of the region’s agricultural sector on weather conditions and is becoming a serious challenge for local farms.
