The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Financial, Tax and Customs Policy, Danylo Getmantsev, stated the need to declare income received from transactions with crypto assets. The corresponding statement was made in an interview with the ICTV TV channel. According to him, cryptocurrencies are not an exception to the general tax legislation. Citizens are obliged to indicate income from any sources, in particular from transactions with digital assets. Getmantsev emphasized that the approach to the situation with cryptocurrencies should be the same as to other types of income. If a citizen has received a profit, it is subject to declaration and taxation in accordance with the established procedure.
He noted that the state does not distinguish between traditional and digital assets in terms of the obligation to pay taxes. At the same time, the issue of full-fledged regulation of the crypto market in Ukraine is still at the development stage. Getmantsev noted that the draft law is still in the preparation stage. The authorities continue to work on its final version, in particular on issues of taxation and rules for the functioning of the market.
According to the chairman of the committee, the future regulatory model should establish a separate approach to crypto-assets. However, its implementation is subject to the general principle of taxation of personal income. Hetmantsev also pointed out the importance of increasing financial discipline and transparency. The authorities expect that citizens will voluntarily declare their income, in particular that received in cryptocurrency. At the same time, he did not specify what control mechanisms will be applied to such assets. However, he emphasized that the responsibility for correct declaration lies with the taxpayer.
