The dollar is perhaps the most common currency in the world. In many countries, you can pay with dollars. It is also in dollars that most Ukrainians keep their savings, because they believe that it is more reliable. In the USA, the design of dollar bills is changed from time to time. They say that this is necessary primarily in order to make the bills of higher quality and strengthen their security systems. They say that recently there have been a lot of scammers in the world who have learned to make fakes. They are counterfeiting dollars of various denominations, so most banknotes will be updated.
The world will see new dollars after 2026
The USA announced that they will update banknotes in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollars. They will start with 5 and 10 dollars and the first new banknotes will be issued in 2026. Then in 2028 they will work on updating all other denominations. It is not yet known what the design of the updated dollars will be, it is only known that the new banknotes will be more durable and will be impossible to counterfeit.
What to do with old money?
Absolutely all dollars issued since 1914 are valid both in Ukraine and in the rest of the world. They do not need to be updated with new banknotes. Banks and financial institutions may not accept money from you only if it is a fake. Also, financial institutions, for example, exchangers, do not accept damaged banknotes. With such banknotes, for example, torn or damaged by fire or water, you need to go to the bank. You need to order a collection service at the bank. Damaged banknotes will be sent abroad to the bank that issued them. You, as their owner, will be paid a certain percentage of their value. The percentage depends on the degree of damage to the banknote.
